Muslims of Tibet

A few years ago, while on a visit to Kashmir, I stayed with a Tibetan Muslim family in Srinagar. It was then that I realised that not all Tibetans were Buddhists and that there were Tibetans who were Muslims too. I was intrigued to find out more about this community, which has settled in India after leaving Tibet almost 50 years ago. The following article is the story of this unique community, that has blended different cultural strains to forge a distinct identity, that has been kept alive even in the face of adversity.
